Organic Chemistry I Labs

CHEM350 supervised labs are offered in several formats at various times during the year.

over 4 days, (2 weekend sessions, ~1 month apart).
over 3 days, in the summer (usually in June and sometimes also in August).
over 3 days, at McMaster University in Hamilton (in August).
over 2.5 days, Fri. eve./Sat/Sun (Special labs in February and November).

For a complete listing of upcoming lab dates, please consult our
Science Lab Schedule.

There are only
four options when taking one of our chemistry courses with a mandatory lab component:

Option (1)
Travel to Alberta, Canada and do the supervised labs here with Athabasca University. Please be aware that we offer condensed/intensive lab sessions in Alberta, and that it is possible to complete multiple lab components in a single trip. Under special circumstances, you also may be given a certain amount of time after your contract date to complete the lab component of a course. For a complete listing of upcoming lab dates, please consult our Science Lab Schedule.

Option (2)
Travel to Hamilton, ON, Canada and do the supervised labs with McMaster University. PMcMaster University is offering condensed/intensive lab sessions and that it is possible to complete multiple lab components in a single trip. Again, for a complete listing of upcoming lab dates, please consult our Science Lab Schedule.

Option (3)
Find a nearby (to you) college or university which will allow you to attend and complete their 'equivalent lab course', and then seek a lab exemption from our course. For more information about chem lab exemptions, please see our Exemptions webpage.

Note: The third option for students is sometimes difficult to set up (AU has NO formal arrangements with any place outside Alberta, other than with McMaster University), and this option does require you to pay double tuition (to us for the theory part of the course, and to another institution for the labs).

Option (4)
You have already completed an 'equivalent lab course', and therefore are eligible to seek a lab exemption from our course. Again, for more information about chem lab exemptions, please consult our Exemptions webpage.

If you have any further questions about our CHEM350 Organic I lab component, please ask
Mr. Rob Carmichael (Science Lab Coordinator).
